A New Estimate of the Hubble Time with Improved Modeling of Gravitational Lenses

چکیده

This paper examines free-form modeling of gravitational lenses using Bayesian ensembles of pixelated mass maps. The priors and algorithms from previous work are clarified and significant technical improvements are made. Lens reconstruction and Hubble Time recovery are tested using mock data from simple analytic models and recent galaxy-formation simulations. Finally, using published data, the Hubble Time is inferred through the simultaneous reconstruction of eleven time-delay lenses. The result is H 0 = 13.7 +1.8 −1.0 Gyr (H0 = 71 +6 −8 km s −1 Mpc). Subject headings: gravitational lensing; cosmological parameters

The Hubble Constant from Gravitational Lens Time Delays

There are now 10 firm time delay measurements in gravitational lenses. The physics of time delays is well understood, and the only important variable for interpreting the time delays to determine H0 is the mean surface mass density 〈κ〉 (in units of the critical density for gravitational lensing) of the lens galaxy at the radius of the lensed images. More centrally concentrated mass distribution...

2 00 2 Gravitational Lenses , the Distance Ladder and the Hubble Constant : A New Dark Matter Problem

In cold dark matter models, a galaxy's dark matter halo is more spatially extended than its stars. However, even though the five well-constrained gravitational lenses with time delay measurements must have similar dark matter distributions, reconciling the Hubble constant estimated from their time delays with local estimates is possible only if that dark matter distribution is as compact as the...

A new method for the estimate of H0 from quadruply imaged gravitational lens systems

We present a new method to estimate the Hubble constant H0 from the measured time delays in quadruply imaged gravitational lens systems. We show how it is possible to get an estimate of H0 without the need to completely reconstruct the lensing potential thus avoiding any a priori hypothesis on the expression of the galaxy lens model. Our method only needs to assume that the lens potential may b...

A gravitational lens in the Hubble Deep Field

Cosmologically distant galaxies ought to act as multiply imaging gravitational lenses for a fraction ∼ 0.002−0.005 of background sources.[1, 2, 3] This prediction is being borne out by surveys of flat spectrum radio sources[4, 5] and optical surveys.[6, 7, 8] The incidence and character of strong gravitational lenses provide an important constraint on the source redshift distribution and world ...

Enhanced Lensing Rate by Clustering of Massive Galaxies: Newly Discovered Systems in the Slacs Fields

Galaxy-scale strong gravitational lens systems are useful for a variety of astrophysical applications. However, their use is limited by the relatively small samples of lenses known to date. It is thus important to develop efficient ways to discover new systems both in present and forthcoming datasets. For future large high-resolution imaging surveys we anticipate an ever-growing need for effici...
